#TeamTrouble

The not guilty verdict in the case of the former assistants to Charles Saatchi and Nigella Lawson’s highlights nothing but the mess that was their marriage

#TeamNigella has trended on Twitter in recent weeks. Even the Prime Minister joined in. Few have leapt to the defence of the television presenter’s former husband, Charles Saatchi, however, but yesterday, still, his Evening Standard column still proudly graced the entirety of page 39.

Lawson and Saatchi’s staffing arrangements are what the case against the Grillo sisters hinged upon but what this circus really became was a sounding board for a dysfunctional pair to wreck one another’s reputations. With today’s “not guilty” verdict, neither came out of it well and what really surprised us what that so many decided to back Lawson despite her very own revelations about drug taking and much more.

#TeamCupcake has represented a major part of Lawson’s publicity campaign during the trial period and was plainly an attempt by this celebrity chef to restore her “homely” status. To our minds, this reckless woman instead deserves to fail as much as her bully of an ex-husband should be sent to Siberia. Nigella Lawson is not a fit or proper person to grace our screens.

In fact, in summary, we’d go as far as to suggest both Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi are the ones that come out of this trial as damaged goods. Rather like a broken record player, the only place for them is the skip of stardom. Frankly, the sooner the public come to understand this, the better.
