A royal’s view on the Union

The Queen breaks her silence on Scotland’s future

Can the Queen succeed where the hapless ‘Better Together’ campaign has failed? Today, as she left church in Scotland the monarch reportedly told a member of the public: “I hope people will think very carefully about the future” according to Sky News.

The Queen spoke out four days before Scotland votes on independence

Previously Buckingham Palace has stated:

“The sovereign’s constitutional impartiality is an established principle of our democracy and one which the Queen has demonstrated throughout her reign”.

“As such the monarch is above politics and those in political office have a duty to ensure that this remains the case”.

“Any suggestion that the Queen would wish to influence the outcome of the current referendum campaign is categorically wrong”.

“Her Majesty is firmly of the view that this is a matter for the people of Scotland”.

David Cameron should now follow the Queen’s lead; it is time he drove home the case to save the Union.
