A 1954 Pegaso Z-102 fails to sell at Amelia Island

Earlier this week we reported that a one-off Spanish supercar, a Pegaso Z-102 Series II cabriolet by Saoutchik, was to go to auction at the RM Auctions sale at Amelia Island today, Saturday 9th March 2013.

The RM Auctions catalogue entry for the 1954 Pegaso

This beautiful car had a guide price of $1,250,000 to $1,750,000 and received much media attention in the run-up to the sale.

Bidding commenced at $400,000
… but failed to pass $700,000 and the car was withdrawn

Extraordinarily, this afternoon, though, no bidder went for the Pegaso. The auctioneer commenced the sale at just $400,000 (£268,000) but after struggling to reach $700,000 (£469,000), the car was withdrawn.

Given how many of our readers contacted us about this extraordinary car, we shall monitor what happens next carefully. This, we are sure, is not the end of this story, but just the beginning.
