Kellie Shirley: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

20 questions with actress Kellie Shirley, best known as Carly Wicks from ‘Eastenders’

The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom”. What’s your guiding force?

Really good lyrics.

“Don’t get even, get medieval” is, in our humble opinion, a great motto. What’s yours?

If you cry because you’ve lost the sun, your tears won’t let you see the stars.

Kerry Katona was considered unacceptable in 2007. Who or what is unacceptable in 2013?

Michael Gove.

Tony Blair misses being Prime Minister. What do you miss most in your life?

Carbs.

What might you swap all your wealth for?

What wealth?

Donald Trump was once a case of: “If you owe the bank a thousand, they close you down; but if you owe the bank a billion, you own the bank”. What’s your view on the banking crisis?

The world is governed by greed. The bonus culture is disgraceful, especially when you consider the state of the NHS and our education system.

What phrase or word do you most loathe?

“Tour de force”, “amazeballs” and “natch”.

In the UK, some people consider charity to “begin at home”. What’s your view and what causes do you personally support?

I am an ambassador for Mencap and a patron for Magpie Dance, a professional dance company for dancers with learning difficulties. I’m also a big fan of the Anthony Nolan leukaemia trust, for whom I’ve run the marathon twice.

The judge in Law Abiding Citizen states: “I can pretty much do whatever I want” before being blown up whilst answering her mobile phone. What’s your view on the appropriate use of such devices?

Using mobile phones at the dinner table is naughty.

Mae West, Christopher Biggins, Ryan Early, Arthur Miller, Amy Winehouse and Nell Gwyn.

If you were unfortunate enough to end up on death row, what would be your last meal and where would you eat it?

Chicken liver parfait followed by Jamie Oliver’s spinach and ricotta cannelloni. I’d finish with iced berries with a hot white chocolate sauce and I’d enjoyed it naked in a field in summer time with a really good bottle of wine.

What time is it acceptable to consume the first drink of the day?

If you are in an airport, anytime; otherwise midday is a good start.

A Negroni, a martini or a cup of tea?

A martini. A dirty one.

Whose parties do you enjoy the most and why?

Jake Maskell. He is the party king.

Who is the most positive person you know?

My mum.

What’s your most guilty pleasure?

Lying.

If a tattoo were to sum you up, what would it be of?

‘LOVE’ and ‘HATE’ written across my knuckles to sum up my misanthropic anthropological tendencies.

A go-kart.

I don’t think I am surprising. What you see is what you get.

A Christmas card from Christopher Biggins.
