Queen Victoria on the merits of beer

Our Quote of the Week was shared by The Cross Keys pub on Facebook. It was made Queen Victoria and sums up her views on the merits of beer:

“Give my people plenty of beer, good beer, and cheap beer, and you will have no revolution among them”.

Queen Victoria surprisingly was a bit of a drinker

Made in echo of the Athenian tragedian Euripides, who stated: “The man that isn’t jolly after drinking; Is just a drivelling idiot to my thinking”, Queen Victoria was also famed for adding single malt whisky to her claret and was also rather partial to “tipsy cake” – cake laced with alcohol. It seems that in reality this allegedly dour monarch was in fact often plainly rather merry.
