There are people with too much time on their hands and then there’s Terry Lawton from Tollesby, Teesside.

Featured in an article in Teesside Live on Monday by one Samuel Jones, the former Labour and independent councillor contacted the paper to whinge about steak he’d purchased at a Morrisons store in Berwick Hills.

Mr Lawton complained that the meat was “rotten before the use by date had even passed.” Explaining what happened, the chippy 66-year-old ranted: “I had some yesterday and it stunk to high heaven. It’s rump steak which you expect to be decent. My wife was poorly. We never thought anymore about it until we went to the fridge and saw the state of it.”

“Furious Terry” then “stormed down to the store” and in spite of most reasonably being offered a refund, free product replacement and travel expenses announced: “I said it’s a disgrace. This can’t be right. You look it and you think can’t eat that – it stinks.”

In November 2018, this moaning mouthpiece made an appearance in Teesside Live for another reason. On this occasion, he had been questioned by police after allegedly “subjecting a man to a torrent of homophobic abuse.” After it was decided no further action would be taken, Lawton complained it was “a ploy to try and discredit me and my new party.”

Earlier that year, ‘Tezza The Terror’ found himself on the BBC News website also. That time he was “accused of bullying staff.” His behaviour was described there as “the worst seen in 30 years of local government” by Middlesborough Council’s chief executive Tony Parkinson and two complaints of bullying and intimidation against staff were subsequently upheld against him.

If you see Terry Lawton coming, run in a mile. This almighty menace is one to most definitely not enjoy a steak supper with.
