Parisian glory

The Tout’s tips for the Parisian spectacle that is the Qatar Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe

They are all there in Paris this weekend, champions one and all: Derby winners, Group One winners, colts and fillies from all around the world trying to grab the greatest glory in the shape of Europe’s top race of the year the Qatar Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe run at Longchamps. The track is unique in that its parkland setting is almost in the centre of Paris so the glamour is tangible and extremely chic.

The Qatar Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe is a race that exudes glamour

This year, The Tout is confused as there are twenty runners and fifteen have a chance. Luckily three of them are owned by last year’s winning owner so if you back any of them on the Paris Mutuel (French Tote) they are all coupled for betting purposes so The Tout sees this as the way forwards. They are Teve who won last year’s race, Etcot this year’s favourite and a very exciting three year old and last year’s English Derby winner Ruler Of The World.

Both Etcot and Ruler Of The World won their trial races well and Etcot is a three year old who appear in recent years to be favoured over the older horses in this race. Therefore we make Etcot the main selection and perhaps an each way wager on Gold Ship, the Japanese runner, to finish late and hard on Longchamp’s demanding straight.

The Tout will have some rosbif with a good Bordeaux to fortify himself for the action.
