All the fun of the fair

The Tout’s predictions for the Oaks, the Derby and the Belmont Stakes

We have two great days of proper grown up horseracing to come at Epsom and as ever the twists, turns and undulations will take their toll and test every horse to their maximum. This is one of the strongest tests possible for a young three year old thoroughbred and is breed defining here in England.

Will the Oaks be marvellous for Marvellous?

Let’s start with the fillies in Friday’s the Oaks and The Tout is scared of the well named favourite, Marvellous, who is coming off an impressive win at The Curragh in The Irish 1000 Guineas but, instead, my fancy is for Madam Chiang at 12/1 with William Buick on board. He is a jockey in form at the moment. Madam Chiang won the Musidora well at York and the extra distance will suit her.

In the Derby on Saturday, there is only one direction to look and that is at the favourite Australia who is available at 6/4. This could look a very big price if he goes clear in the last furlong as is expected.

The Tout is also savouring California Chrome on Saturday night in New York as he attempts to become the first triple crown winner in the USA since Affirmed, ridden by the great Steve Cauthen, in 1978. History in the making?
