Fernande Grudet (AKA ‘Madame Claude’)

Fernande GrudetQuite possibly the most famous madam ever, Fernande Grudet was the head of a French network of call girls in the 1950s and 1960s. Her clients are said to have numbered everyone from Rex Harrison to Marlon Brando and Muammar Gaddafi to John F. Kennedy and Aristotle Onassis. Of her, Taki Theodoracopulos commented: “Going to a hooker wasn’t frowned upon in the days before the pill” whilst the journalist Dany Jucaud added: “She was vicious… She reduced the entire world to rich men wanting sex and poor men wanting money”.
