Wally of the Week – Straight Banana Lady

Woman who voted for Brexit because she spotted a straight banana in a supermarket becomes a laughing stock

On Thursday night in Wallasey, Merseyside on the BBC’s Question Time programme, a woman announced she’d changed her mind and had voted for Brexit instead of to remain in the EU because she’d spotted a straight banana in a supermarket.

Aside from leaving the audience in hysterics at her ridiculous reasoning, a parody Twitter account was set up in the unknown woman’s honour minutes later. Named @EUBananaWoman, the account’s handle is captioned: “I voted Leave coz I hate straight bananas. It’s true I tell ya” and already has 74 followers.

‘Straight Banana Woman’s’ full comments follow:

“I was voting remain and at the very last minute I changed my decision and I went to leave. And the reason because of that was ‘cos of [sic] I go to a supermarket and a banana is straight. I’m just sick of the silly rules that come out of Europe”.

Dimbleby:

“Have bananas changed?”

Banana woman:

“If you go to Aldi, they’re a bit, er, bent”.

Dimbleby:

“It was bananas what did, what did it for you?”

Banana woman:

“No. It was more than bananas. It’s the fact that there, erm, there are opportunities out there that we need to see as a country”.
