Wally of the Week: Aidan Burley MP

Aidan Burley

Conservative MP Aidan Burley used his final speech in the House of Commons to attack his constituents and to moan about parliamentary pay

Aidan Burley has done some pretty stupid things in his time. Attending a Nazi themed party was perhaps not the best idea but yesterday this hapless idiot once again truly took the biscuit in his final speech in the House of Commons.

In the speech Burley complained about life as an MP and moaned about his rude and awkward constituents. He commented:

“I want to thank my wife Jodie, who is sat up there in the gallery, who has worked for over four years as manager of my constituency office, the ‘MP help zone’, dealing with some of the most complex cases and often the rudest and most awkward constituents. She has maintained a quiet dignity and poise that few could match”.

“Being an MP does come at a great cost, including being away from home four nights a week, working very long hours, often for lower pay than you were earning before, and with constant, unwanted and often unwarranted media intrusion into every aspect of your and your family’s life”.

“It was a price that was once worth paying but for me that time has now passed and I now look forward to new challenges, greater freedoms and a life outside this mad house”.

Aidan Burley’s days may be numbered but his legacy is now clear. All he’ll be remembered for is being a bit of a buffoon and an almighty whinger.
