Will Donald Trump make a 2016 bid for the White House?
We’re used to seeing him in the boardroom of The Apprentice and to hearing of his spats with ex-wives and Scottish politicians but could it be possible that a 70-year old Donald Trump might become the 45th President of the United States of America in 2016?
In May this year, Republican supporting Trump’s executive vice president and special counsel, Michael Cohen, spoke to the New York Post about how the businessman had spent $1 million on researching his standing in each American state. Cohen told the paper:
“The electoral research was commissioned. We did not spend $1 million on this research for it just to sit on my bookshelf… At this point Mr Trump has not made any decision on a political run, but what I would say is that he is exactly what this country needs. The turnout at these political speeches indicates his following remains very strong and is growing”.
“The Donald” hasn’t hidden his his desire to take public office either. When he was asked earlier this year about his ambitions, he replied:
“Everybody tells me, ‘Please run for president. Please run for president’”.
Last week, after speaking at the evangelical Family Leader Conference in Iowa, Trump further fueled speculation by telling ABC News that he has a fortune of more than $10 billion and that: “If I did it, I’d spend whatever it took”.
Continuing in the same vein yesterday, the magnate appeared on Fox and Friends and told his interviewer:
It’s not something I’m longing to do. It’s not something I want to do … but if somebody else is not going to do it right, I would certainly look at it very strongly”.
A Trump White House would indeed be a very different place. Maybe he’d build a golf course on the front lawn and perhaps there might be potential to turn the West Wing into condos.
