The Rivers Way

As Broadway refuses to dim its lights for Joan Rivers, a list of those she banned from her funeral is revealed

Just as Perez Hilton reported that Broadway have declined to dim their lights in honour of Joan Rivers, a list of those she banned from her funeral has been circulated.

Joan Rivers (1933 – 2014)

Of why they opted not to recognise the accomplishments of a star so connected with Broadway, executive director of the Broadway League Charlotte St. Martin commented:

“Under our criteria people need to have been very active recently in the theater, or else be synonymous with Broadway – people who made their careers here, or kept it up”.

“We love Joan – she was very supportive of Broadway and came to a lot of show openings – but she hasn’t acted on Broadway in 20 years. When you say Joan Rivers, you don’t think comedy, television and Broadway. You think comedy and television. It’s certainly nothing against her”.

Jujamcyn’s Jordan Roth, however, has broken with the rest of Broadway and announced:

“In memory of the legendary Joan Rivers, we will dim the lights of our Jujamcyn Theaters marquees, Tuesday at 6:45pm”.

Separately, a list of those Rivers “banned” from attending her funeral has been shared. She discussed this during an interview with The Sunday Times and amongst those she chose were the “fat” Grammy-winning singer Adele, the “tranny” Michelle Obama and the “drunk, whore” television presenter Chelsea Handler.

Even in death, Joan Rivers is having the last laugh.
