Terrorising Theresa

Section:

This morning’s incident at Westminster should act as a reminder that Theresa May’s cuts to policing are utterly wrong and should be reversed

Whatever occurred this morning in Westminster provides proof of one thing for certain and that is that the Metropolitan Police acted quickly and with the upmost efficiency.

Whether a terrorist attack or something less sinister, that the 20-something year old driver of a Ford Fiesta whose vehicle smashed into cyclists and a security barrier thankfully caused no deaths is to be celebrated.

What, however, ought to be remembered is that policing in the capital is now incredibly under-resourced thanks to Theresa May’s decisions in her previous role as Home Secretary. In 2010, there were 149 police stations in London; by 2020 there will shamefully be just 32.

Matthew Steeples, editor-in-chief of The Steeple Times, comments:

“In my own dealings with the police – with regard to individuals using social media to abuse myself and others amongst other things – I’ve encountered many officers. Off the record, all have shared their frustrations at cuts to office numbers and places where the public can report crime.”

“With an increased threat to public safety, Mrs May must now reverse her terrible decision. This country was lucky this morning but they may not be next time. We need more bobbies on the beat and we need them now.”

  1. You are for once right Steeple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Theresa May has got it so wrong and it’s no wonder there’s so much crime in Britain!!!!!!!!!!! Manchester the other day, knife crimes —– Need I go on???????? Donald Trump is so right —- your hosptials are war zones and the place is unsafe!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m staying Down Under where we do it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. The confirmation is that the arrested man is not cooperating makes me think he is definitely on drugs. Maybe he was na Uber driver.

  3. Good work by the police but you are very right about the bigger picture Matthew. Where is Theresa May? OUT OF THE COUNTRY – Shame on her!

  4. Donald Trump would never let this occur. He is busy MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN and we don’t have attacks like this ever. Britain is a dangerous place and I won’t be visiting any time soon.

    • Wow Tiffani, its currently the school holidays so you haven’t had any shootings lately. can i remind you that there more violent crimes in the USA than in the UK… and i’m more than happy you won’t be visiting any time soon and please inform Donald hes not welcome either.

    • Good riddance then and go back to a country where more people are shot and stabbed than the rest of the world put together.
      Dunce!

  5. I live nearby and as a pensioner I find this kind of thing very scary. Luckily nobody got killed but the lack of police stations in the area is very upsetting to us old folk as now we cannot even go to the Belgravia one – Mrs May’s government closed that one in December.

  6. In reply to Tiffani, a) “Chicago doesn’t have the highest homicide rate, but the Windy City consistently had more total killings than any other U.S. city — with 27 people killed since the beginning of the month”. 27, and we’re only half way through the month…..
    b) “We don’t have attacks like this ever”… Really? What were the Boston marathon bombing and Orlando nightclub shootings then, a figment of my imagination?
What I’m trying to say is surely it’s better to confront the horror of violence together and not start wandering off into partisan politics.

  7. Hi Tiffani, are you on drugs?
We’re 21 weeks into 2018, and there have already been 23 school shootings where someone was hurt or killed. That averages out to more than 1 shooting a week.

The parameters CNN followed in this count are:
A shooting that involved at least one person being shot (not including the shooter)
A shooting that occurred on school grounds
We included grades K through college/university level
We included gang violence, fights and domestic violence
So Donald is making America safe again? I’d hate to be living somewhere unsafe then.
