Squalid in South Ken

Squalid in South Kensington – Suite A, 19 Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London, SW7 2JB – Allsop auction – Thursday 18th February 2016 – Guide price of £30,000 to £50,000

Squalid store room on a half-landing in South Kensington offered for £30,000 to £50,000 at auction

In a further sign that the London property market has gone potty, a squalid store room on a busy main road in South Kensington has is to be auctioned with a guide price of £30,000 to £50,000 on Thursday 18th February.

Situated on a half-landing between the first and second floor of 19 Cromwell Road, ‘Suite A’ – as the selling agents Allsop optimistically name the property – is described simply as having “a sink and windows”. Its square footage is not shared but it is held on a long lease of 125 years from the 25th December 2014 with a ground rent of £250 per annum.

The room is situated in a grand Victorian building on on Cromwell Road, between its junctions with Cromwell Place and Thurloe Place
The room is situated on a half landing between the first and second floors of the building
The squalid room on offer is plainly in need of significant renovation
There is even a sink and a somewhat dated water heater but the room lacks a bathroom and lavatory

Viewings – without the need for an appointment – are available every Wednesday and Friday before the auction between 9.30am and 10am. No doubt the behaviour of the queue that will form around the block to take a look will make the antics of the contestants on Storage Wars seem tame.

Update 18th February: Sold for a staggering £82,500.
