Sensible Scotland

Section:

Scotland has taken the right decision

Yesterday the Scottish came out in force and voted ‘no’ to independence. Though the ‘Better Together’ campaign’s win is by a relatively small margin and though their campaign was poorly orchestrated, it is a victory nonetheless and we should all celebrate the common sense of this decision.

Common sense has prevailed as Scotland has rightly decided that we are indeed 'Better Together'

Glasgow, Dundee and North Dunbartonshire said ‘yes’ but beyond that huge numbers came out and voted ‘no’ elsewhere. With a turnout of 86% also, this is a verdict that has credibility. It is one that George Galloway was wrongly derided for when he called it over a week ago and it is one that will no doubt leave a sour taste in the mouths of Sir Sean Connery, Andy Murray and Dame Vivienne Westwood.

Alex Salmond and his cronies should take note. He ran a campaign that was bitter, hateful and unnecessarily divisive and readers should be reminded that his list of supporters speaks volumes. That the bulk of his campaign funds came from a pair of EuroMillions winners and much of the rest from the scourge of the gay community, Sir Brian Souter, is telling. Alex Salmond is a man who was backed by a minority. He arrogantly believed he could bully Scots into a ‘yes’ but thankfully his gamble has spectacularly failed.

On BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme this morning, former Secretary of State for Defence John Reid stated: “To Alex Salmond, I say, don’t bring this up again”. He is right; Alex Salmond’s quest for power has gone the way of Macbeth. There will not be Scottish independence and now we must all work to making our treasured Union once again prosper. We are, indeed, better together.

    1. Don’t lose your heads over a No result. He that fights and runs away will live to fight another day. I am still curious to what a Scotsman wears under his kilt? Why were they nicknamed devils in skirts during the wars?
