Handbag auction raises only £63,000
Fraudster Kankamol Albon’s handbags were expected to raise “upto £200,000” at an auction of assets seized by the Joint Suffolk and Norfolk Economic Crime Unit. They fetched just £63,000.
A police spokesman, Ady Finbrow, told the BBC:
“We were very pleased with how the auction went, buyers came from far and wide, including dealers from London”.
Given that auctioneers Clowes Nash Auctions don’t even have a working website we’re not surprised at the poor result. Without proper promotion, it was no wonder these high-end items didn’t achieve a higher total. “Why did the police not choose a better known firm?” is indeed the question that should be asked.
As Albon, whom we wrote of earlier this week, sits in her cell, convicted of false misrepresentation, fraudulent trading, theft and VAT fraud, however, the police plan to “continue to pursue money”. They’ll be lucky.
