What’s in the overuse of “for me”?
This week in the Daily Telegraph there have been a number of letters regarding the use of the phrase: “Can you just fill in this form for me?” I am not sure where the debate started but this drivel is often used in the surgeries of doctors and dentists and also in council offices.
Telegraph readers, rightly, plainly feel that “please” would be a better substitute for “for me” and I must say that I agree. It is time we developed better manners and learnt to use English correctly.
