Guardsman Mathew Talbot shall be remembered for his dedication in his efforts to stop the illegal wildlife trade

“Proud Brummie” Mathew Talbot of the 1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards was someone who was described as being “exceptionally kind and friendly.”

This 22-year old was also referred to as being “devoted, hugely proud of his work as a counter-poaching operator” and someone “selfless [with an] unbeatable spirit” by his commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ed Launders.

Talbot, who sadly was killed by an elephant in tall grass in Malawi – a country whose elephant population has halved from 4,000 in the 1980s to just 2,000 in 2015 – on Sunday whilst on an anti-poaching mission, was someone who served his country with great dedication. He will be sorely missed by many and his work to help stop the evil of the illegal wildlife trade will forever be remembered.
