Curious Fellows – Ben Fellows cleared of perverting the course of justice in relation to claims against Kenneth Clarke

Ben Fellows found not guilty of perverting the course of justice over claims he was groped by Ken Clarke in 1994

Though Ken Clarke dismissed claims that he had groped a man as “preposterous”, “off the Richter scale” and “like Martians landing”, a jury found the actor who had made those claims, Ben Fellows, 40, from Birmingham, not guilty of perverting the course of justice yesterday at the Old Bailey.

A regular on the pages of Exaro News despite an attempt by the prosecution to bar reporting of the case, Fellows was cleared of a charge of “doing acts tending or intended to pervert the course of justice [by falsely alleging to police] that he had been indecently assaulted by Kenneth Clarke”.

Outside the court, Fellows – who was described by prosecutors as an “inventive and sometimes persuasive fantasist” – commented:

“It was an intense and terrifying experience being at the Old Bailey, and I felt completely out of my depth, and would never have been able to cope without the dedicated and hard working legal team paid for by legal aid”.

“As far as I am concerned, the next few weeks and months are about rebuilding my life and moving on. I shall make no further comment – now or in the future – about Mr Clarke or the events of 1994. I ask everyone to respect this decision and allow these matters to rest”.
