“Cock Roache” fears attack

As a William Roache waxwork is defaced, his friends announce that he fears being attacked himself

The actor who plays Coronation Street’s Ken Barlow, William Roache MBE, is due at Preston Crown Court tomorrow. Mr Roache, who has been charged with two counts of raping a 15-year-old girl in the 1960s, supposedly also fears that he could be the victim of a vigilante attack.

Unnamed “friends”, quoted in this morning’s Daily Star, stated:

“It’s a scary situation for him. People are making knee-jerk reactions about Bill and he hasn’t even had a trial”.

The comments come in the wake of a waxwork at Madame Tussauds in Blackpool of Mr Roache, who is widley nicknamed “Cock Roache” after he once boasted to have slept with over 1,000 women, being removed “after some visitors defaced it, others posed with it for indecent shots and some complained that the figure should not even be on show”.

A Madame Tussauds spokesman commented:

“We have received a number of comments relating to the figure. But even more importantly, we have witnessed unacceptable behaviour from a small number of visitors. We have decided to temporarily remove the figure.”

Mr Roache, whether innocent or guilty, would simply do best to keep a low profile. It is quite right that the waxwork of him has been removed but it would be quite wrong of any vigilante to attack him.
