Red Bull founder’s grandson remains subject to an arrest warrant
In a case that echoes that of Florida’s John Goodman trial, 28-year old Vorayuth Yoovidhya – the grandson of the founder of Red Bull – remains subject to an arrest warrant for reckless driving, causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
Yoovidhya, who crashed his Ferrari into an on-duty policeman on a motorbike in Bangkok on 3rd September 2012, failed to appear in court in September 2013 in relation to the fatal hit-and-run case.
In September this year, Thai prosecutor Ruescha Krairiksh commented:
“We can’t indict him because the suspect is not present. This means the statute of limitations for speeding will expire because the incident occurred on 3rd September 2012”.
Separately, Yoovidhya has paid his victim’s family £59,000 in an attempt to stall a civil lawsuit. This represents barely a dent in his billionaire family’s £3.3 billion fortune and provides illustration that the wealthy can truly evade justice in Thailand.
