All That’s Certain About Boris and Dave

All That’s Certain About Boris and Dave – Death, taxes and Boris Johnson find themselves united whilst the dust jacket of David Cameron’s ‘For The Record’ gets pilloried – There’s nothing certain in life other than death and taxes” becomes There’s nothing certain in life other than death, taxes and Boris Johnson losing votes.”

Death, taxes and Boris Johnson find themselves united whilst the dust jacket of David Cameron’s ‘For The Record’ gets a pillorying edit

In 1789, Benjamin Franklin wrote: “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes,” but now a witty reader has added something else.

In a message to The Steeple Times, Richard Marriott, wittily amended this well used adage and remarked: “There’s nothing certain in life other than death, taxes and Boris Johnson losing votes.”

He is quite right and we very much hope ‘Bosie The Clown’ continues on the same path.

The dust jacket and rear cover of the amusingly altered book.

Elsewhere another reader, Frank Spurrell, sent in a follow-up to our feature on Waterstones booksellers and members of the public graffitiing the cover of David Cameron’s memoir, For The Record.

This week, according to The Bookseller also, a shopper went into Foyles in Charing Cross Road and replaced the dust jacket of a copy of the book with something altogether more appropriate. It included a quote from Donald Trump that read: “A very great book. So great. No. It’s a great book. All the worlds. All the pages” and another from Judy and Andy Murray that suggested the tome to be: ‘A poorly-written romp around the world with hardly any reference to tennis whatsoever.”

Of the stunt, a spokesman for Foyles remarked: “So far as we can tell it was just the one copy of For The Record that had its dust jacket swapped, and this has now been removed from sale. The book has been selling regularly since publication but, since the images of the dummy jacket hit social media, we’ve seen a huge increase in interest both instore and online, with people wanting to buy this particular copy at well above the RRP.”

Given his many failures elsewhere, ‘Call Me Dave’ should be grateful..
