A Shoreditch Shocker – Trapeze Bar branded “racist” after telling charity event organisers their fundraiser for Grenfell Tower survivors will attract a “poor quality demographic”

East End nightclub tells charity event organisers their fundraiser for Grenfell Tower survivors will attract a “poor quality demographic”

The manager of a Shoreditch nightclub has been branded a “racist” after emailing the organisers of an event planned to raise funds for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire to tell them he thought they were aiming to attract a “poor quality demographic” and problem causers.

Jordan Wells of Trapeze Bar in Great Eastern Street, EC2A emailed Haqiqi Events and told them:

“I am the General Manager at Trapeze. I am disappointed that I see your artwork and flyers have described that your music genres include Bashment and Trap music. Both of which were not described when we requested information about the event. These types of music are crap and we do not entertain them as they attract poor quality demographic and result in problems.”

After Haqiqi Events tweeted their followers to inform their event would be postponed, Miroma Leisure, the owners of the club, issued an apology and offered to “double the money raised on the night for Grenfell as a gesture of goodwill”. Haqiqi Events responded: “We are not associating with a business like this. #Racism”
