A kangaroo court

Rolf Harris

The latest arrest in Operation Yewtree illustrates the muddle that this investigation has become

British newspapers have decided not to name the 82-year old “celebrity” arrested in Berkshire on suspicion of sexual offences as part of Operation Yewtree.

The political blog Guido Fawkes and other news sources have decided to name the individual, however, as “there was no legal reason not to report this news”. They suggest that the individual supposedly is the Australian entertainer Rolf Harris AO, CBE.

Rolf Harris

We at The Steeple Times were told the name of another personality in his 70s who was arrested towards the end of last year. It is most curious that neither he nor Rolf Harris have been named in the mainstream media whilst Jim Davidson, Freddie Starr, Dave Lee Travis and Max Clifford, who also have been arrested but not charged, have been thrown to the dogs.

It does seem as if Operation Yewtree is being operated with one set of standards regarding the naming of certain so-called “celebrities” and a totally set of others for another group.

This kangaroo court is becoming an almighty muddle. The police would do well to clean up this matter with urgency.
