The House of Zonk

The House of Zonk – Yealand Hall, Yealand Redmayne, Carnforth, Lancashire, LA5 9TD – Davis & Bowring – £1.35 million – Sir Sanderson Temple – Zonkey

Lancashire property that previously was the home of a judge and a zonkey for sale

The late Sir Sanderson Temple QC was most definitely an eccentric. He made his career as a judge but was better known for keeping a zonkey – a cross between a zebra and a donkey – at his home, Yealand Hall at Yealand Redmayne in Lancashire. That property is now for sale for £1.35 million (though sadly Zonk – the zonkey – is long gone).

In the current ownership since 2000 and offered for sale by agents Davis & Bowring, Yealand Hall has been vastly expanded and modernised and now features 9,382 square foot of accommodation. As well as five bedrooms, the house now includes a leisure suite with swimming pool and Jacuzzi and a large orangery to the rear.

In addition to the paddock in which Sir Sanderson Temple kept his zonkey – which allegedly used to attack sheep and occasionally was entered into local races – further land has been acquired. The total plot on which Yealand Hall now extends to 12.24 acres and includes woodland, gardens and a wild flower meadow.
