The best view in London or an expensive way to live in London’s ‘naffest’ square?

The sale of a £16.95 million duplex penthouse in Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is a place that most Londoners avoid. It’s a place for pigeons, protestors and tourists and though millions travel through it daily, most don’t tend to stop. In an article for The Guardian titled “Why I hate London’s Trafalgar Square”, the author Will Self went as far as to label it “one of the most crap urban public spaces in the world”.

The square, home to The National Gallery and Nelson’s Column, is indeed not somewhere many would opt to live given that it regularly is the scene of political rallies, concerts and screenings of sporting events but amongst those with residences there currently are the inventor Sir Clive Sinclair and his former lap dancer wife, Angie Bowness. Now, developers LBS Properties and BMB have created five more residences in the square and amongst them is a £16.95 million 3,765 square foot duplex penthouse.

The Canadian Pacific Building, a Portland stone clad six-storey office building formerly occupied by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, a Canadian transportation and mining giant, have been transformed and undoubtedly the penthouse must be amongst the finest properties currently available in London in terms of the space and views on offer.

You’ll always know what time it is when you are showering as one of the bathrooms in the Trafalgar One penthouse is situated with the building’s clock tower

Situated on the firth and sixth floors of this portered building, the apartment includes a 31 foot by 25 foot reception room with a terrace that enjoys views towards Buckingham Palace and beyond, a vast 39 foot by 19 foot open plan dining kitchen, a study and 4 bedroom suites. It is completed by a second 40-foot terrace and even features a shower room within the building’s clock tower. Underground parking for two vehicles is available on an annual licence.

The penthouse at Trafalgar One is most definitely a showstopper. Perhaps it’d suit Justin Bieber. It’d put a stop to him turning up late to perform at his concerts. If he bought it, he could just sing to the assembled masses from his very own roof.
