Taking bijou to another level

Bijou Queen’s Gate, South Kensington, London, SW7 studio - Yours for £1.195 million through Winkworth

South Kensington studio with what are described as “two sleeping areas” hits the market for a staggering £1.195 million or £1,950 per square foot

In 1988, a 5’6” by 11’ broom cupboard opposite Harrods sold for £36,500 (the equivalent of £91,789 today) whilst in 2012, a similar sized space went on offer for £89,950. Though this astonished many at the time and was described as an indicator of a peaking market, agents Winkworth have plainly decided to take the pricing for bijou apartments to another level with a “property” they are currently marketing. It comes with what they describe as “two sleeping areas” and is being offered for the princely sum of £1,195,000 but at the end of the day, still is nothing other than a studio flat.

The main room has a “sleeping area” housed within its window and a pint sized kitchen in an alcove
The two “sleeping areas” and shower room can best be described as compact
The apartment is situated in a grand building on Queen’s Gate

Featuring a little more space than the former broom cupboards previously mentioned, the first floor “property” on offer is located in Queen’s Gate, South Kensington and is some 613 square foot in size. It features a 19’6” by 17’9” reception space with a 14’5” high ceiling that has a kitchen on a miniature scale in one alcove and a “sleeping area” within a window at the opposite side of the room. A staircase leads to a marble clad shower room and a ladder provides access to a further “sleeping area” above.

Those suffering with claustrophobia need not apply and nor should those anticipating another 1989 on the horizon either.
