Speedback

David Brown Automotive’s Speedback is a stunning vehicle

David Brown shares not only his name with Sir David Brown of DB Aston Martin fame but also an ability to create the most stunning of cars. The contemporary Brown, though not related to Sir David or Aston Martin in any way, has plainly taken inspiration from his namesake in creating a new sports car that will be launched at the Top Marques show at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on 17th April.

The car is the conception of a businessman named David Brown

Brown, a businessman whose family made their fortune in the tractor business, has created a vehicle based on the Jaguar XKR platform and powertrain that is also influenced by the styling of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and Maseratis. Built in Coventry, it has a Jaguar V8 engine, a six-speed gearbox and can accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds. Clever design features include a fold down picnic seat and of it, David Brown commented:

“This car will appeal to anybody who desires a truly individual sports car, which can boast a fine British pedigree and which will only be produced in limited numbers, thus ensuring the kind of exclusivity associated with Britain’s once proud heritage of traditional, high-quality, automotive coach-building”.

Britain used to make great cars and specialising in producing high quality vehicles is certainly no bad thing given the number of wealthy Chinese and Russians snapping up classic Astons at auction of late at the most astounding prices. The price for the David Brown Automotive Speedback has yet to be revealed but we’d put money on  there being a rather long waiting list for this stunning vehicle.
