Rock and Joel

Rock and Joel - 2505 Divisadero Street, San Francisco, California, CA 94115, USA - Joel Goodrich - £7.7 million

Renowned real estate broker Joel Goodrich is marketing a San Francisco mansion that has links to both silent movies and noisy rockstars for £7.7 million

Joel Goodrich is, without a doubt, one of what Americans might term “top-brokers’” and amongst his current listings is a house in San Francisco that has a pedigree that numbers both appearances in silent movies and associations with noisy rockstars.

2505 Divisadero Street
The house was the setting for one of the key scenes of the 1924 film ‘The Navigator’
It was also home to Kirk Hammett between 1993 and 2009

2505 Divisadero Street, in the city’s most sought after area – Pacific Heights – was designed by a locally renowned architect named Edgar A. Mathews (1866 – 1946), but what makes it unique is that its ‘famous connections’ come in the form of it being the setting for a “visual gag” by Buster Keaton in the 1924 film The Navigator and that it was the home of Metallica’s Kirk Hammett between 1993 and 2009.

The 10,100 square foot, 8-bedroom house was built in 1899 for Clinton Jones, general agent for the Rock Island Railway, which operated Pullman sleeping car trains from the West Coast to Chicago and Boston, and was sold to Hammett for £1.67 million ($2.56 million) in 1993. He tried and failed to market the property for £8.16 million ($12.5 million) in 2006 and eventually sold for £4.96 million ($7.6 million) in 2009.

Whilst the interior is grand in terms of its proportions, it is not exactly exciting in terms of its decor
On a more positive note, the house includes a rather impressive wine cellar
The billiards’ room features a rather impressive bar. It is most definitely any man’s dream “man cave”
There are also views towards Alcatraz

The current owner – who has spent considerable sums no doubt de-cluttering the lifestyle of a rockstar and whose additions to the house number a 2,000 bottle wine cellar – attempted to sell 2505 Divisadero Street for £6.04 million ($9.25 million) in 2012 but now, in a market where prices continue to sky rocket, Joel Goodrich seeks £7.7 million ($11.85 million).
