An opportunity to live amongst New York’s elite on a budget

Last week, New York real estate blog 6sqft featured Manhattan’s cheapest penthouse. It’s surprisingly for sale for just £154,000 ($190,000, €180,000 or درهم‎‎698,000) and it is situated at 103 East 84th Street.

Aside from being within, as you’d expect, a “full service white glove building off Park and Lexington Avenues” and having a roof terrace (though be it just 21’8” long by 5’ wide), the selling agents Camelot Realty Group describe it as an “elegant pied-a-terre”.

It is, however, a property with a catch. It is within a building that requires a 50% down payment and sub-letting is not allowed. Though pets are welcome, you’d hardly want to house a Wolfhound here either: It consists of a living space measuring just 14’ by 13’10” and has the tiniest of kitchen spaces and a minute bathroom also.

Curiously the agents remark: “This apartment has been a host to many types of people in the past” whilst 6sqft add: “The current owner is a somewhat unconventional retired Catholic priest, which the faithful among you might consider a blessing”.
