Making a new bed to lie in

Charles Saatchi to sell a bed by Tracey Emin

Charles Saatchi’s ex-wife to be Nigella Lawson recently moved out of their marital home in Shawfield Street, Chelsea. Now, with the sale of a four poster bed by Tracey Emin, he’s chucking out another set of linen.

“To Meet My Past” by Tracey Emin is to be offered for sale as part of the Christie’s Thinking Big sale

Rather appropriately titled: To Meet My Past and featuring embroidered linen hangings, Emin’s creation was acquired by the Saatchi Gallery in 2002. It will feature as one of fifty lots in Christie’s Thinking Big sale on Thursday 17th October and is offered without an estimate or reserve.

Though Philippa Adams, senior director of the Saatchi Gallery, commented that the auction has “absolutely nothing to do with the divorce”, the sale of this item does seem very timely given the art collector’s marriage was sent into history in London’s High Court earlier this week. The couple now await a decree nisi.

Plainly Mr Saatchi has decided that it’s time to make a new bed to lie in.
