The world’s most expensive registration plate comes to London

The world’s most expensive registration plate is currently gracing the streets of London on a dark red Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Saeed Khouri, then aged 25, paid £7,100,000 for the “1” plate in February 2008
The “1” plate was previously seen in London on a lighter red Rolls-Royce Phantom

The owner of the plate, which features no letters and just the numeral “1”, is a man named Saeed Khouri from Abu Dhabi. Of why he paid an astounding £7,100,000 for it in 2008, Khouri commented:

“I bought it because it’s the best number… I bought it because I want to be the best in the world”.

Khouri’s family are said to have made their wealth in property and his cousin, Talal, has a similar passion for number plates. He paid £3,470,000 for the registration “5” in 2007.
