Phil Neville tries to rent his “mansion in the sky” in Manchester for £15,000 a month

The footballer Phil Neville has been trying to sell his “mansion in the sky” in Manchester since 2010. First marketed for £4,000,000 and then reduced to £3,750,000, The Orchid Suite on the 44th, 45th and 46th floors of the city’s iconic Beetham Tower is now available for rent for £15,000 a month.

The former England, Everton and Manchester United player’s 4,950 square foot residence is the penultimate apartment in Europe’s tallest residential building and has only the 47th floor residence of structures architect, Ian Simpson, above it.

Completed in 2006 at a cost of £150 million, the Beetham Tower is the seventh tallest building in Europe and comprises 525,000 square foot of floor space. In total there are 219 apartments in the building, 16 penthouses and a 285 bedroomed Hilton Hotel. Struck by lightning in 2009, the tower is said to be visible from ten English counties on a clear day and residents themselves can look out over the set of Coronation Street, Snowdonia, the Pennines, the Peak District and as far as Blackpool Tower and Jodrell Bank Observatory on a clear day.

The Orchid Suite, which was briefly rented to Simon Cowell when he filmed Britain’s Got Talent in Manchester, features interior design by Kelly Hoppen and is divided to provide amenity space on level 44, living space on level 45 and bedrooms on level 46. There are 3 bedroom suites, a 28 foot by 28 foot sitting room, a 28 foot dining kitchen and a 25 foot studio room. In addition, the apartment is air conditioned and benefits from 5 allocated parking spaces in the building’s undercroft.

Jennie Platt of City Centre Chic, who is promoting the flat on the rental market, told the Mail Online:

“This is definitely the most expensive apartment we have ever marketed… This is in a in prime location and on another level of luxury. We have had quite a few enquiries about this property since we put it up for rent but have yet to find a tenant”.

“Because of the transfer window, this is one of the busiest times of year for us in terms of new players, managers and football executives coming to Manchester”.

One factor that might put tenants off might be that parts of this apartment aren’t exactly configured to suit a bachelor. Many of the rooms, as shown in images in the Mail Online’s article, appear to have been decorated to suit the tastes of Harvey and Isabella, Phil and Julie Neville’s young children.

A bedroom decorated with a castle theme might not appeal to tenants or buyers
Equally, a “Finding Nemo” and “Little Mermaid” themed bathroom might be equally unappealing

Though we cannot exactly imagine many people jumping at the chance of bathrooms themed in the style of The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo or bedrooms styled as fantasy castles, perhaps this could indeed be the perfect “crib” for Justin Bieber.
