Five of the Best: Summer clothing and accessories for gents

Five of the Best: Summer clothing and accessories for gents – Matthew Steeples chooses five favourites from Chavín Jewellery, Fairfax & Favor, Harvie & Hudson, John Lewis and Pickett

Matthew Steeples chooses five of his favourite finds for gentlemen this summer

With August upon us, the man about town can relax and wind down. Whether you are staying in the city or heading off to warmer climbs, these five items of clothing and accessories will certainly make you stand out.

Fairfax & Favor ‘The Bedingfeld’ loafers – £135 (including free next working day delivery)

Undoubtedly the pair of shoes for which I have received the most compliments ever – beating even my vastly more expensive Ferrari Tod’s – ‘The Bedingfeld’ loafer in Navy blue with a contrasting pink tassel is comfortable yet slick. Perfect for what their Norfolk based manufacturers term “the laid back dress-up-dress-down lifestyle”, these leather soled suede shoes are a surefire winner.

Harvie & Hudson Prince of Wales shirt in pink – £30 (for a limited period)

Reduced in price from £75 during their sale, Jermyn Street based Harvie & Hudson’s 100% cotton double cuff shirt looks as good for a trip to the office in a suit as it would with a pair of chinos and a linen jacket when dining at Harry’s Bar in Venice. Be sure to order whilst stocks last.

‘Kin by John Lewis’ slim-fit chinos in deep red – £14.50 (reduced from £29)

Available for a limited period at this true bargain price, you cannot go wrong with these 100% cotton chinos. For less than the cost of a round of drinks, these machine washable trousers are suitable for pretty much any occasion also.

Chavín Jewellery ‘Fire Bracelet’ – £37

A favourite of the actor and forthcoming star of The Cocksure Lads film Lyndon Ogbourne, this ‘Fire Bracelet’ is inspired by the fiery native wanderers of the Peruvian Andes and is made from 18 carat rose gold on sterling silver. Its red, yellow and orange cord, I’ve come to find, attracts a lot of attention and a lot of compliments.

Pickett ‘Webbing Belt’ in red – £69

Continuing with my love of all things red, this superb handmade all-purpose webbing belt reflects the eccentricity of this luxury goods brand’s eccentric founder. It has a solid nickel buckle and – for more conservative sorts – is available in three other colours also.
