Extra-long wheelbase 1998 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur armoured touring limousine used in Equatorial Guinea for sale for a knock down price
Presented in “dismantled condition” and “requiring extensive work to get it running,” a 1998 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur armoured touring limousine by H. J. Mulliner Park Ward is to be sold by Bonhams this Sunday. It comes with Equatorial Guinea registration papers and customs documents.
Finished in grey with beige interior, the passenger compartment of this “rare” extra-long-wheelbase car is filled with bits and pieces and is in need of “restoration and reassembly.” No mention is made of who its owner is or was, but given its links to a country with “one of the worst human rights records in the world,” it may well have passed through the hands of someone truly tyrannical (and plainly very rich).
The limousine will be offered without reserve at an estimate of £20,000 to £37,000 (CHF 25,000 to CHF 45,000, $24,600 to $45,000, €22,500 to €41,600 or درهم90,300 to درهم167,000) on 29th September at Cheserex, Switzerland. One can only imagine what it will cost to put it right.
Update: Monday 30th September: The car was sold for £70,507 including premium yesterday. It transpires its now former owner was Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mague (known as Teodorin), son of Equatorial Guinea’s president. It was seized by Swiss authorities as part of a money laundering probe.
