One-off 1973 Rolls-Royce by Pietro Frua – described as the largest convertible ever built – to be auctioned
Listed as “one of the most extravagant convertibles ever built” and originally owned by His Excellency Consul Simon van Kempen of Switzerland and Monaco, a Rolls-Royce for sale as part of the auction of the £25.8 million ($40 million or €35.1 million) Frederiksen Collection is a truly unique car.
Priced with a guide of £200,000 to £250,000 ($310,000 to $388,000 or €272,000 to €340,000) and built on the chassis of a 1973 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI by the Maserati designer Pietro Frua, the car on offer is said to be “the largest and most imposing two-door convertible existing in the world today – and most likely one of the largest two-door convertibles ever built”. It measures 22’2” in length and took two years to build due to Consul van Kempen continually changing the specification during construction.
Featuring a piano hinge bonnet and tool receptacles “in neat receptacles on both sides of the engine”, this “convertible giant” will be sold on 26th September by Bonhams in Ebeltoft, Denmark.
