Wally of the Week: Andy Lee House

Car dealer Andy Lee House faces jail after wrecking a Bugatti Veyron

In November 2009, Andy Lee House, an American car dealer, thought he’d come up with the perfect scam when he decided to crash a 2006 Bugatti Veyron worth £603,332 ($1 million) into a swamp in East Texas. His scheme – which he based upon suggesting a pelican caused him to swerve and crash– backfired and now he’s looking at up to 20 years in jail.

House, who has now admitted intentionally driving the car into a swamp with a view to collect an insurance payout of £1,327,312 ($2.2 million), didn’t bank on a passing motorist filming the entire incident. After investigators hit him with a lawsuit due to the YouTube video that motorist made, he’s now had to admit to having lied.

Andy Lee House was convicted of an attempt to commit theft charge and an evading arrest charge in the 1990s. As they say, leopards never change their spots but what such people as Mr House ought to remember is that hidden cameras don’t lie: Big Brother’s always out there and he’s always watching you.
