Classic clangers from the last week

Pret a Menu

“Have you a menu?” asked a burka clad Arab in Pret in Knightsbridge. The server answered: “No madam, we serve only what’s in those fridges”. The Arab turned on her heels and said: “I’ll be off then. Shame on you”. Where did she think she was? The Ritz?

Found in a hotel room

A red-faced Brummie was overheard to remark: “I won’t be tolerating this” at a hotel in the Cotswolds. “I went to my room and found a spider there”. The receptionist answered: “What did you expect? At least it wasn’t Rolf Harris”. The guest spluttered and checked out.

The idyll of the Cotswolds was ruined for one visitor

Drinking the year

“I want a 1664” commented a drinker in The Surprise in Chelsea. “It’s 2014” replied the barman. The unsatisfied drinker moved on.

Lunching without Hollande

“Let’s get started with a Bombay and tonic. Lots of tonic; no ice” commented a larger than life character at La Brasserie in South Kensington. “Chicken and chips as well but nothing French in the way of sauces”, the man continued before concluding: “I won’t be paying President Hollande prices either”. The waiter looked bemused and politely processed his order.
