Nik Thakkar: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times asks fashion creative, writer and television host Nik Thakkar: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom”. What’s your guiding force?

I fear there isn’t time to accomplish the things I must.

“Don’t get even, get medieval” is, in our humble opinion, a great motto. What’s yours?

I am my past all played at once. Be present in every action, it dictates the man you become.

Kerry Katona was considered unacceptable in 2007. Who or what is unacceptable in 2013?

Laziness in every form.

Tony Blair misses being Prime Minister. What do you miss most in your life?

There is a sad but sweet feeling behind truly missing someone or something. Mine is private, not from shame but out of respect to a nostalgia rare to me.

What might you swap all your wealth for?

The collective wealth of Beyonce and Jay-Z.

Donald Trump was once a case of: “If you owe the bank a thousand, they close you down; but if you owe the bank a billion, you own the bank”. What’s your view on the banking crisis?

It’s simply needing someone more than they need you. Never be that girl.

What phrase or word do you most loathe?

“Mate” used in a colloquial sense.

In the UK, some people consider charity to “begin at home”. What’s your view and what causes do you personally support?

I’m a fashion ambassador for Greenpeace alongside some well-known industry names.

The judge in Law Abiding Citizen states: “I can pretty much do whatever I want” before being blown up whilst answering her mobile phone. What’s your view on the appropriate use of such devices?

There’s only so much creative inspiration you can get from staring at a screen. Try a window or a painting to change it up.

If you could fill a carriage on The Orient Express, who would be your fellow passengers?

Those who were at Studio 54’s New Year’s Eve in 1978. Grace Jones performing, of course.

If you were unfortunate enough to end up on death row, what would be your last meal and where would you eat it?

Oysters by the pool on a private rooftop in New York.

What time is it acceptable to consume the first drink of the day?

To each their own.

A Negroni, a martini or a cup of tea?

Tea.

Whose parties do you enjoy the most and why?

Anywhere with more surgically enhanced noses than real ones. Cannes is a good start.

Who is the most positive person you know?

My aunt.

What’s your most guilty pleasure?

I don’t feel guilt.

If a tattoo were to sum you up, what would it be of?

If I decide to stop working out tattoos are a good alternative. I’ll think about it then.

If you were a car, what marque would you be?

My black Jeep Wrangler works well to sum me up. People notice it and it’s rough around the edges.

Cilla Black presented Surprise, Surprise. Tell us the most surprising thing about you.

I’m approachable.

What’s currently sitting on your mantelpiece?

Bottles of Snow Queen Vodka, and various hangers with Ada + Nik leather jackets, dress shirts and jerseys from my upcoming menswear collection.
