Adam Rickitt: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times asks former actor, singer, PR and former ‘Coronation Street’ star Adam Rickitt: “What’s on your mantelpiece?”

The Steeple Times shares “wit and wisdom”. What’s your guiding force?

Be kind, be true and be real.

“Don’t get even, get medieval” is, in our humble opinion, a great motto. What’s yours?

“If wishes were horses, beggars would ride”.

Kerry Katona was considered unacceptable in 2007. Who or what is unacceptable in 2014?

Alex Salmond.

Tony Blair misses being Prime Minister. What do you miss most in your life?

My liver.

What might you swap all your wealth for?

For that of somebody else who has more.

Donald Trump was once a case of: “If you owe the bank a thousand, they close you down; but if you owe the bank a billion, you own the bank”. What’s your view on the banking crisis?

The blame lies with the bankers for a lack of accountability, but also with us all as individuals for lack of personal responsibility. Nobody made people overreach.

What phrase or word do you most loathe?

“If only”.

In the UK, some people consider charity to “begin at home”. What’s your view and what causes do you personally support?

Charity begins with compassion, where and who that compassion lies for is up to the individual and should be applauded no matter where it goes.

The judge in Law Abiding Citizen states: “I can pretty much do whatever I want” before being blown up whilst answering her mobile phone. What’s your view on the appropriate use of such devices?

Never during a meal, never be too loud, and never have a “oh I’m so witty” type ringtone.

If you could fill a carriage on The Orient Express, who would be your fellow passengers?

Dame Judi Dench, Prince Harry, Penelope Cruz, Ayrton Senna and Hercule Poirot (in case things take a turn for the worse).

If you were unfortunate enough to end up on death row, what would be your last meal and where would you eat it?

My mum’s Christmas cake in Taormina, Sicily (where I got engaged). I’m not sure HMP service would be that accommodating though.

What time is it acceptable to consume the first drink of the day?

1pm (but on a plane, take off).

A Negroni, a martini or a cup of tea?

A Negroni or a Sol if you have one.

Whose parties do you enjoy the most and why?

The ones I can remember as I probably didn’t embarrass myself too much.

Who is the most positive person you know?

My brother Mark.

What’s your most guilty pleasure?

Sons of Anarchy.

If a tattoo were to sum you up, what would it be of?

The handprints of my children on my back (when I have them). The idea of that is what keeps pushing me forward.

If you were a car, what marque would you be?

An Austin Healey: Getting on now but still has a bit of grunt left.

Cilla Black presented Surprise, Surprise. Tell us the most surprising thing about you.

I box at a pretty cool level.

What’s currently sitting on your mantelpiece?

A picture of my fiancée and a picture of my dog: The two most precious things in the world to me. The order? I’ll let you guess.
