Wayne’s World

Taking on the illogical and the twisted

At The Steeple Times we haven’t been afraid to name and shame crooks, phonies and liars. Though legal action has been threatened against us by such people as a humourless comedian and the “Chanel-clad” wife of an ex-ambassador in the past, these suits have come to nothing. Now, though, with yet another missive from the supporters of a collective of both accused and convicted paedophiles and sex offenders, we had to ask: “What drives the thought processes of these cranks?”

The prolific paedophile Jimmy Savile amazingly still has supporters

In a comment on our feature on Wednesday’s taxi driver protest against the Uber app, an individual named Wayne Wallace stated:

The Steeple Times: A title with no wit and no wisdom. In reality: A title that tries to destroy the reputations of innocent and good men like Sir James Savile, Rolf Harris, Stuart Hall and Max Clifford and one that attacks hard working taxi drivers. The Steeple Times should be sued by all of the above”.

A bizarre tweet from Rabbit Away about Savile

Wallace’s view of the world is plainly rather warped but he is not alone. We’ve received bizarre missives in recent days from others such as a Twitter user named ‘Rabbit Away’ who suggested that the “most prolific sex offender in British history” Savile was “falsely accused” whilst another named ‘Anne’ told us that “those blaming Jimmy Savile are the sick ones”.

In turn, one Robert McCall sent us a comment on an old article about Savile from 2012 that we chose not to publish publicly. In it, he stated:

“… A collective are at this moment bringing a libel and slander case to your door and they will see you in the High Court”.

Given that Savile has been accused of hundreds and is suspected of thousands of abuse allegations, those – like us – who believe in justice, would welcome any such opportunity.
