Turn The Arch

‘The Archers’ without the Archers won’t be ‘The Archers’

The BBC has lost its way; it’s plain and it’s as simple as that. Radio 4 is an institution and The Archers – which has been on the air since 1951 – was frankly something so essential to its very essence that what they’ve done in even suggesting that the Archer family depart for Northumberland is nothing other than sacrilege.

‘The Archers’ wont be ‘The Archers’ without the Archers

In this week’s Radio Times, the former Home Secretary David Blunkett lamented what has happened to the radio series and stated that he was “losing the will to live” at the show’s current plotlines. He concluded: “The Archers – RIP”. Meanwhile, Tom Graham, the actor who played Tom Archer, took to Twitter to bemoan that he had been deposed and was leaving the soap “with a heavy heart” whilst Radio 4’s Dame Jenni Murray remarked:

“I will kill the editor if he lets David and Ruth and Jill go to Northumberland. Brookfield simply cannot go. It’s just not possible; there will be a national scandal if that happens”.

The Archers will not be The Archers without the Archers. The BBC must put a stop to their dastardly plan before it’s too late.
