As Max Clifford appears in court again, he might want to learn to be more careful about what he says
Max Clifford is a man who has based his career on trades. Today, though, the self-styled “celebrity publicist” will be once again swapping the television sofa, however, for the dock when he appears at Southwark Crown Court on 11 charges of indecent assault.
The 70-year old, who is famed for both building and destroying reputations, is accused of committing assaults on seven teenage girls between 1966 and 1985 and pleaded not guilty to all 11 charges last month. Clifford, from Hersham, Surrey, was charged in April after being arrested in December as part of Operation Yewtree.
Of the charges, the publicist has previously commented:
“[They are] a load of nonsense… I’m totally innocent of these allegations and the nightmare continues. All I know is up until the Jimmy Savile situation, no one ever said anything about me at all. What I’ve got to do now is to prove that these allegations are totally without foundation, which I know they are”.
Separately, in a covertly recorded interview allegedly filmed by the late George Carmen QC’s son Dominic, shared on YouTube last year, of his chosen career, Clifford once stated:
“I create a false image. I’m deceiving people, I’m lying, for sure… I’ve got all the evidence. I’m the one who’s hidden it from the world. I know where everything is and where the evidence… the proof is. Ten, twenty, thirty years go by and no one in the world knows”.
Today, these very words could most certainly come back to haunt Mr Clifford.
