Taking refuge with The Telegraph

Section:

Letter to ‘The Telegraph’ illustrates a sensible perspective on how England should behave towards “foreigners flying for refuge against oppression and tyranny”

Given the about-turn by many elements of the British press with regard to the immigration in recent days, a recent letter to The Telegraph is something well worth reading.

Taking refuge with The Telegraph
Taking refuge with The Telegraph – Perspectives on those seeking asylum from tyranny have changed in recent days

In the short missive, John Kennet of Hadlow, Kent commented:

“SIR – In the crypt of Canterbury Cathedral there is a French Protestant chapel. Outside is a notice which pays tribute to ‘the large and liberal spirit of the English church, and the glorious asylum which England has in all times given to foreigners flying for refuge against oppression and tyranny’. Our politicians should reflect on the generosity of spirit for which the English were once renowned”.

Elsewhere, The Independent reported on and saluted the letter and remarked: “Well said, Mr Kennett, well said”. We wholeheartedly second that.

    1. Make no mistake, my heart goes out to the mothers and fathers and children of this humanitarian crisis, however, A Syrian operative claimed more than 4,000 covert ISIS gunmen had been smuggled into western nations – hidden amongst innocent refugees.
The ISIS smuggler, who is in his thirties and is described as having a trimmed jet-black beard, revealed the ongoing clandestine operation is a complete success.
“Just wait,” he smiled. I urge for caution and common sense too.

    2. Chaim is right: we are sitting ducks. The only refugees who should be considered are those suffering from religious persecution: ie Christians. The Muslim element should be given refuge in Middle Eastern or other Muslim countries,
They pose a danger to our already over crowded society.
I doubt Kennet, being a Telegraph reader, lives in town or city now taken over by Muslims.
      Stop all this crass sentimentality.

    3. I have a head and a heart. My head says we should only allow in Christian refugges who can assimilate into our culture. Are you really suggesting we let pour into this country people who are just economic refugees and whom we have absolutely no surety that they are not going to do us harm?
As it’s bad enough knowing that there are now 11,000 foreign prisoners in our jails without inviting the creme de la creme of ISIL fighters in to do us harm. Let them go the Gulf States and Saudi: the homes of the Jihadist movement, It’s all very well the likes of us, living in splendid isolation, but I have regard for my working class fellow English people who have to endure their towns and cities changed beyond recognition.
Orban of Hungary has it right….

    4. Rod, I don’t want to seem sneering….but why all these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It does tend to think you are not quite right in the head
