Picture of the Week: Middleton and Mills

Middleton and Mills

Matthew Steeples suggests Pippa Middleton deserves to be pitied after being pictured with Heather Mills

I truly pity Pippa Middleton after she was pictured with Heather Mills this week. My own experience with this self-obsessed fantasist was nearly as bad and I can imagine exactly how Mills manipulated Middleton into appearing with her.

Pictured together at the ParaSnowBall party at the Cumberland Hotel in London, The Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister smiled politely in images shared by the Mail Online. Mills, meanwhile, beamed with glee and in plain realisation that she’d get another few column inches.

My own encounter with Sir Paul McCartney’s tawdry ex-wife occurred in Knightsbridge some years ago when I met this daughter of a convicted fraudster on a snowy evening outside an event. As we both had arrived at the same time, I unfortunately witnessed her launch into a tirade against the paparazzi who were taking photographs of her.

As we proceeded to move inside towards the actual event, Mills ranted at me about her views on media intrusion but then, on spotting a soldier, demanded I be photographed with her. “I must show my support”, she calculating stated and then randomly asked my views on fox hunting. Having heard I was a supporter, she turned on her heels in anger and headed off to harass Prince Michael of Kent. He politely interacted with her as other guests looked on in pity but fortunately had a lucky escape after a couple of minutes.

Wednesday night’s encounter between Middleton and Mills was probably as equally contrived. In being pictured together Heather Mills yet again proved herself to be a pushy persuader but, equally and rather reassuringly, Pippa Middleton showed herself to be nothing other than a picture of patience.
