Matthew Steeples suggests Boris Johnson must face up to the fact that his majority is likely to disappear

Last night after the Lib Dems stormed to victory in Brecon & Radnorshire (with 44% of the vote share), Boris Johnson’s majority in parliament was reduced to just one.

Hailed as a blow to Johnson’s ridiculous no-deal Brexit stance, the defeat of the elections expenses cheat Chris Davies by Jane Dodds left not only the Tories reeling. That Labour were pushed into fourth (with just 5% of the votes cast) and nearly lost their deposit illustrated how badly Jeremy Corbyn is performing, whilst Nigel Farage can hardly crow after his Brexit Party managed to get just 11% of the vote share.

Elsewhere, after Charles Elphicke was charged in relation to allegations of sexual assault, the Conservative Party must face up to the likely fact that they could ultimately lose his seat also, but the big news this morning is that another Tory, Dr Phillip Lee, has declared that “he’ll spend the summer thinking a lot” about crossing the floor to the Liberal Democrats. If Dr Lee does go, the party’s majority will be zero and frankly the chances of Johnson surviving a likely vote of no confidence in September could wipe his government out.
