A Christmas wish

Christmas

Merry Christmas from all at ‘The Steeple Times’

Christmas Day is finally upon us and we’d like to take this opportunity – since we’re not of the Tony Blair “happy holidays” school of thought – to wish all our readers a very happy Christmas and the very best wishes for the forthcoming year.

Christmas is a time to be with friends and family and though many get swept away in the inevitable commercialisation, please do spare a thought for soldiers away from their loved ones in foreign lands and the homeless on the streets as you eat, drink and be merry today.

Christmas in London

Here in London, there is much to do over Christmas and our photomontage shares four ideas of things to do in the forthcoming days. The first shows the actress turned director Angelina Jolie at the premiere of Unbrokenwhich we reviewed last month – with two wonderful Chelsea Pensioners. The film opens today in America and tomorrow, Boxing Day, in Great Britain. It is a little “Hollywood-ised” but it truly is a tale of courage in the face of adversity that is worth seeing.

The second image shows Santa Claus outside Harrods with one of the store’s doormen and a pair of penguins. Now owned by the Qatar Investment Authority, those after a bargain will be able to shop there at a discount on Friday 26th December from 8.30am. Customers will be offered complimentary hot chocolate, mince pies and pastries in Hans Crescent and later, after the store opens at 10am, the company will launch a new drink, Harrods Green Juice.

Our third and fourth images are of Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland and the ice rink at Somerset House. Tickets to the ice rink – which is open until 11th January – start at £7.50 whilst rides and experiences at Winter Wonderland – which is open until 4th January – range in price from £6 to £15 each.

Wherever you may be in the world, we would like to thank you for your support, contributions and enthusiasm for The Steeple Times during 2014. In 2015, we will be making a number of changes and look forward to sharing these with you shortly.

Merry Christmas and best wishes,

Matthew Steeples and all at The Steeple Times
